At the recent awards ceremony held by Auto Bild Allrad on the 21st of March 2013, the prestigious All-Wheel Drive Sports Car of the Year 2013 award went to none other than the Bentley Continental GT.
First introduced in 2002, the Bentley Continental range of cars have expanded to include the standard GT coupe, the GTC convertible, the GT Speed, Continental Supersport, and a few other limited editions.
Prior to the face-lifted model shown to the public in late 2012, the original Continental GTs were offered with only a 6.0L W12 engine paired to a sophisticated all-wheel drive (AWD) system. This meant that the car had the power, luxury, comfort, and safety that anyone could put together in a package. The only downside (or upside, depending on how you look at it) about the Continental GT was the hefty price tag that came with the car. In America, the car commanded an asking price of a whooping US$200,000 before options.
For the fortunate few that are able to afford the car, the owners were treated to a one-of-a-kind car that almost no other marque offered.
Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, CEO of Bentley Motor Company, had this to say about receiving the award; “For over a decade, the Bentley Continental GT has defined ultimate luxury and high performance grand touring. The unique W12 engine of the first GT has been so successful that Bentley is now the world’s largest producer of 12-cylinder engines. We are honoured to receive this prestigious award and thank the readers of Auto Bild Allrad.”
Congratulations to Bentley on the huge win!
