At the 2013 Bonhams Paris auction held yesterday (7th February 2013), the car that took home the title of “most expensive car sold” at that particular auction was a 1929 Bentley 6 1/2-Litre Speed Six which sold for an astonishing €828,000. In US dollars, that would be equivalent to roughly 1.1 million dollars!
This Bentley model was introduced in the 1920s as an upmarket touring car catering to the elites in society which included royalties and many of the wealthiest families at that time. The particular car that was sold at the auction was used for an 80-day marathon, aptly known as the “Around the World” rally. It is also worth noting that since the part was used for this particular event, there were heavy modifications done to the seats, exhaust, and various other body and mechanical parts.
Another interesting fact about the car was that it was the oldest car being presented for sale at the auction.
The other notable Bentley sold at the Bonhams Paris auction was a 1931 Bentley 8-Litre Sports Tourer which was sold for €483,000.
